Solar and battery installer on the Gold Coast
Thomson Energy installs solar and home batteries across the Gold Coast under Queensland electrical contractor licence 1508141: Coolangatta, Tugun, Currumbin, Palm Beach, Burleigh, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Mudgeeraba, Nerang, Southport and the hinterland valleys behind them. We're a family-owned Tweed Valley business just over the border, so you get a local installer with its own licensed electricians, not a call centre and a subcontracted crew.

A lot of installers quote the Gold Coast from Brisbane; a few quote it from NSW without a Queensland licence. Thomson Energy holds QLD electrical contractor licence 1508141 alongside our NSW licence, our electricians are licensed in both states, and our workshop at Fernvale is 40 minutes from Coolangatta and about 70 from Southport. Every Gold Coast system is installed to AS/NZS 3000, 5033 and 5139, with the Energex connection, the electrical safety certificate and the STC paperwork handled by us.
Local network notes: Energex
The Gold Coast is on the Energex network, and Energex is ahead of NSW on flexible exports. A standard fixed connection allows 5 kW of export on single phase, but a dynamic connection lets exports go up to 10 kW per phase when the network has room, and allows up to 20 kVA of inverter capacity on single phase (roughly 10 kVA of solar plus 10 kVA of battery inverter) instead of the 10 kVA cap on a fixed connection. For a home that wants a big solar system plus a battery on single-phase supply, that's usually the way to go, and we lodge the dynamic connection application and set up the compliant inverter as part of the job. In constrained parts of the network exports can be throttled down to 1.5 kW at times, which is another reason a battery pays here.
Rebates on the Gold Coast
Queensland homes get the federal STC solar rebate and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount, which currently takes roughly 30 per cent off a battery and steps down again on 1 January 2027. Queensland doesn't currently run a state battery rebate of its own, so unlike NSW there's no VPP incentive to stack, but Energex's dynamic connections and the Gold Coast's air-conditioning-heavy evening loads make the battery case strong on their own. Current figures are in the FAQ.
Coast and hinterland
Beachside suburbs from Coolangatta to Burleigh get the same salt-rated specification we use on the Tweed Coast: Winaico panels with salt-mist certification and a 30-year warranty, marine-grade racking, everything sealed. Tile roofs and two-storey homes are the norm and are priced up front. In the hinterland, Tallebudgera Valley, Currumbin Valley, Numinbah and the Springbrook road, we see the same thing as the Tweed hinterland: long lines, storm outages and acreage properties with pumps and sheds, where bigger batteries with backup, and sometimes full off-grid systems, make sense.
Travel and service
Southern Gold Coast suburbs are 40 to 50 minutes from the workshop, the central coast and Robina about an hour, Southport and Helensvale a bit over. No travel charge for Gold Coast residential work. For warranty and service you're dealing with the same business, in the same place, that installed the system.
