Commercial solar and battery installer for the Northern Rivers, Tweed and Gold Coast
Thomson Energy designs and installs commercial solar and battery systems from 30 kW to 100 kW and beyond, for schools, pubs, farms, workshops, aged care and industrial sites. Recent work includes 90 kW arrays with 50 kWh of storage in Murwillumbah and Goonellabah. We deliver the scope of works, compliance documentation and Essential Energy or Energex approvals as part of the job, which is why builders and national contractors tender to us.

- Rooftop solar to 100 kW+ on Winaico NCX 520 W commercial modules with Sungrow or Fronius three-phase inverters, on SunLock or Clenergy commercial racking engineered for the roof and wind region.
- Commercial battery storage for peak shaving, evening load shifting and backup, with BYD and MPS banks from 50 kWh up, including the 200 kWh class.
- Network approvals and engineering: Essential Energy and Energex embedded generation applications for systems above 30 kW, export limiting, protection settings and the commissioning tests that go with them.
- Tender-ready documentation: scope of works, compliance statements, AS/NZS 5033 and 5139 design documents, pricing schedules and safe work method statements.
- The electrical work around it: switchboard upgrades, main switch and metering changes, Level 2 ASP works arranged in NSW, and full commercial fit-outs through our electrical contracting side.
Recent commercial projects
- TVAC, Murwillumbah: 90 kW Winaico array on Fronius inverters with 50 kWh of BYD battery storage, plus the electrical fit-out of the new Industrial Arts Building.
- Goonellabah, Lismore: 90 kW Winaico commercial array on a Sungrow platform with SunLock racking and 50 kWh of storage, cutting daytime grid draw to near zero.
How commercial pricing works
Every commercial site is different, so we don't publish a rate per kilowatt. What we can say is that commercial solar in this region still has the best payback of anything we install, typically three to five years on a daytime-heavy site, because businesses pay for power when the sun is up. Systems under 100 kW still earn STCs, and from October 2026 systems between 100 kW and 1 MW can claim them too, which has changed the numbers for larger roofs. Batteries make sense where there's a demand charge to shave, an evening trading peak, or a real cost to losing power. We'll model your interval data and show you the payback before you commit to anything.
Working with builders and facility managers
We've delivered tendered solar for national construction companies and aged-care providers, and we know what a head contractor needs: a licensed electrical contractor in NSW (490514C) and QLD (1508141), $20 million public liability, documentation that passes an audit, and a crew that turns up when the program says. We're 11 people, big enough to run a 90 kW install while the residential crews keep working, small enough that the person who priced the job is on site for it.

An address and twelve months of bills or interval data is enough for a first-pass design and payback estimate.
