Solar on the coast is a different job

Salt air eats cheap gear. Within a couple of kilometres of the beach we only fit panels, mounting and isolators rated for a coastal environment: Winaico panels carry salt-mist corrosion certification and a 30-year product warranty, our racking is marine-grade aluminium and stainless, and every roof penetration and cable entry is sealed for driving rain, not just sunshine. We've had Winaico on coastal roofs from the Tweed to the Pilbara for years, and that's why we keep specifying it.

The coast also has more tile roofs, two-storey homes and townhouses than inland, and those change the install. Tile roofs take longer and need the right tile brackets; two-storey homes need edge protection and sometimes a scissor lift; and townhouse or strata solar needs a body corporate conversation before anything goes on a roof. We do all three and price them honestly up front rather than discovering them on install day.

Townhouses, units and strata

Kingscliff, Casuarina and Tweed Heads have a lot of strata-titled homes, and the usual answer from solar companies is "sorry, can't help". We can. A townhouse with its own roof and its own meter is usually straightforward once the owners corporation signs off, and NSW strata law now makes it hard for a body corporate to unreasonably refuse sustainability infrastructure. We'll write the proposal for the strata committee, show which roof area the system uses and how it's wired to your meter only. Local network notes

The NSW side of the border, including Tweed Heads, Coolangatta's neighbour, is on the Essential Energy network: a 5 kW export limit on a standard single-phase connection, flexible limits up to 10 kW coming from late 2026. Cross into Queensland and you're on Energex under our Gold Coast service area, with dynamic connections already offering up to 10 kW per phase. The coast fared better than the valley during the 2022 floods and Cyclone Alfred, but Banora Point, Chinderah and the Tweed Coast villages still saw multi-day outages in 2025, and battery backup is now a common request down here.

Travel and service

Kingscliff is about 30 minutes from our workshop at Fernvale, Tweed Heads about 35 and Pottsville about 25, so site visits and service calls are easy to schedule and there's no travel charge for Tweed Coast jobs. Being a Tweed business matters when a warranty question comes up in year eight: we're still here, in the same place, with the same phone number.

What Tweed Coast homes usually need

Air conditioning and pool pumps dominate coastal bills, which suits solar well because both run while the sun's up. Most homes land on a 10.2 kW Winaico and Sigenergy system, typically $9,500 to $12,500 installed, and a 9 to 18 kWh battery for the evening air conditioning and blackout cover. Retirees in Tweed Heads and Banora Point with daytime loads often do best with a smaller 6.3 kW system. Packages and prices are on the systems and pricing page.
