Solar, battery and off-grid installer for Kyogle
Thomson Energy installs solar, home batteries, stand-alone off-grid systems and rural electrical work across Kyogle and the Kyogle Shire: Wiangaree, Cawongla, Mallanganee, Bonalbo, Woodenbong, Tabulam and Urbenville. We're a Tweed Valley electrical contractor about an hour from Kyogle, with our own licensed electricians on every job and a long track record on rural and off-grid power.

Kyogle Shire is farm country, and farm power is different from suburban power: sheds a long way from the house, bore and irrigation pumps, cool rooms, workshops, worker accommodation, and often a single-wire earth return (SWER) line feeding the lot. That's the kind of work Thomson Energy grew up on. We size solar from the pump and shed loads as well as the house, we design batteries to cover an outage long enough to matter on a farm, and where the grid is marginal or the connection quote is absurd we build stand-alone systems on Victron inverters and Australian-made MPS batteries that run the whole property.
Local network notes
Kyogle and its villages are on Essential Energy, at the end of some of the longest rural feeders in the Northern Rivers. A standard connection in town allows 5 kW of export; on the rural lines Essential Energy often approves less, and on SWER lines export is frequently not permitted at all, which means a solar system out there only pays if you use what you make or store it. We check your connection type and line before we design anything, and we'll tell you honestly whether grid-connect with a battery, zero-export solar, or full off-grid is the right answer. Flexible export limits are coming to Essential Energy from late 2026, but on weak rural lines they may not change much.
Outages are a fact of life this far out. Storms, bushfire season and floods on the Richmond all take lines down, and in 2022 and again in 2025 parts of the shire were without power for days. A battery with properly wired backup circuits, sized to keep the fridges, the pump and the house running for a couple of days, is the single most useful thing we install in Kyogle.
Travel and service
Kyogle is about an hour from our workshop at Fernvale, via Uki and the Nightcap range or via Lismore, and the western villages are 20 to 50 minutes further. We group Kyogle jobs so there's no travel charge on standard work, and we're honest when a job out past Bonalbo needs an overnight. Off-grid systems are monitored remotely through Victron VRM, so most faults are diagnosed from the workshop before anyone drives out.
What Kyogle properties usually need
Town homes tend to land on a 6.3 to 10.2 kW Winaico and Sigenergy system, $6,500 to $12,500 installed, with a 9 to 18 kWh battery for backup. Farms go bigger: 13 kW and up with 18 to 27 kWh of storage, three-phase where the pumps need it, and often a separate shed system. Off-grid homes run $40,000 to $70,000 and large properties from $80,000. Our RAPTOR transportable solar skid suits remote pumps and sheds where there's nothing to mount the gear on.
